Not affiliated with the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors

This is an independent guide. It is not affiliated with the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors, nor with any other state agency, board or department, and it has not been reviewed, endorsed or sponsored by one.

Licenses are issued only by the Board. This site does not issue, renew, process or influence any license or application, and cannot act for you with the Board or check the status of anything you have filed.

The Board is the only authority on what its rules currently say. Where anything here matters to a decision you are about to make, confirm it at nclbgc.org.

Everything on this site is general information about how the rules work. It is not legal advice, it is not financial or professional advice, and it is not advice about your own license, project, contract or dispute. Reading it creates no attorney-client relationship and no professional relationship of any kind.

We describe what the rules say. We do not tell any individual reader what to do, what they are permitted to build, whether they qualify, or how to resolve a disagreement — because doing so would be the unauthorized practice of law, and because it would be wrong to attempt it without knowing your circumstances.

This is a real limit on the content, not a formality at the bottom of the page. It is why pages here describe classifications by what they cover rather than telling you which one is yours, and why anything turning on your specific facts is sent to a qualified professional instead of answered.

Accuracy and dates

Regulatory facts here are checked against a primary source — the North Carolina General Statutes, the North Carolina Administrative Code, material published by the licensing board itself, or the examination vendor’s published Candidate Information Bulletin. Never against another website or a summary of one. Each regulatory page carries a “Last checked” date showing when its facts were last read against those sources; that date is not the date the page was edited. Every fact is cited, so you can follow the reference and confirm it yourself.

Rules, fees and deadlines change, and they can change between one check and the next. A page can be accurate on the day it was verified and wrong by the time you read it. Always confirm current requirements with the Board before acting.

Where a figure could not be established with confidence, this site points at the official source rather than publishing a number.

Links to official sources are provided for your convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or availability.
